September 11th

September 11th will be forever engraved in my head. It was a tough day and as the weeks after unfolded it became more difficult to deal with.

I was on my way to work when I heard on the radio that “a plane” hit the World Trade Center. In my mind, I though Ok, must be one of those private planes who either managed to get lot over Manhattan OR had mechanical issues. Much to my surprise, was it much much more then that.

At the time I worked for a small town government office. It was primary day, so we were busy to begin with, coordinating the primary, polls, clerks, etc. As time went by and we realized what had actually happened, we closed the polls and sent everyone home.

I was lucky. I could have lost 1/2 of my family that day. My family had a business next door to world trade. My cousin had come out of his office to go to world trade to find his employees who had gone to look for their loved ones. The story that he tells is not a good one, what he saw is forever etched into his mind. 10 years later he still has a tough time talking about it.

We lost 1 family member that day. He was a fireman, who got stuck under a stairwell.

I am a member of a volunteer fire department. Tomorrow, we will be doing a dedication to those who lost their lives and those who’s lives were impacted by 9/11. We built a monument in their honor with a piece of steel from World Trade then a BBQ will follow.
